Stochastic particle methods for Smoluchowski coagulation equation: variance reduction and error estimations

چکیده
Stochastic particle methods for the coagulation-fragmentation Smoluchowski equation are developed and a general variance reduction technique is suggested. This method generalizes the massow approach due to H. Babovsky, and has in focus the desired band of the size spectrum. Estimations of the variance and bias of the method are derived. A comparative cost and variance analysis is made for the known stochastic methods. An applied problem of coagulation-evaporation dynamics in free molecule regime is solved.

Convergence of stochastic particle systems undergoing advection and coagulation
The convergence of stochastic particle systems representing physical advection, inflow, outflow and coagulation is considered. The problem is studied on a bounded spatial domain such that there is a general upper bound on the residence time of a particle. The laws on the appropriate Skorohod path space of the empirical measures of the particle systems are shown to be relatively compact. The pat...
متن کاملA stochastic method for solving Smoluchowski's coagulation equation
{ This paper studies a stochastic particle method for the numerical treatment of Smoluchowski equation governing the coagulation of particles in a host gas. Convergence in probability is established for the Monte Carlo estimators, when the number of particles tends to in nity. The deterministic limit is characterized as the solution of a discrete in time version of the Smoluchowski equation. Un...

The Marcus-Lushnikov process is a finite stochastic particle system in which each particle is entirely characterized by its mass. Each pair of particles with masses x and y merges into a single particle at a given rate K(x, y). We consider a strongly gelling kernel behaving as K(x, y) = xαy+ xyα for some α ∈ (0, 1]. In such a case, it is well-known that gelation occurs, that is, giant particles...
متن کاملStandard Stochastic Coalescence with Sum Kernels
A stochastic coalescent is a Markovian system of macroscopic particles entirely characterized by their masses, in which each pair of particles with masses x and y merge into a single particle with mass x+ y at some given rate K(x, y). This rate K is called the coagulation kernel. We refer to the review of Aldous [3] on stochastic coalescence, on its links with the Smoluchowski coagulation equat...
متن کاملExact simulation of nonlinear coagulation processes
The Smoluchowski equation is a nonlinear integro-differential equation describing the evolution of the concentration μt(dx) of particles of mass in (x, x+ dx) in an infinite particle system where coalescence occurs. We introduce a class of algorithms, which allow, under some conditions, to simulate exactly a stochastic process (Xt)t≥0, whose time marginals are given by (xμt(dx))t≥0.
